The small steps we can take to provide a better environment
1. Adjust your water heater. Switch on your water heater only when hot water is required. Remember to switch it off as soon as your job is done.
2. Upgrade your electrical appliances. Any electrical appliance if old, consumes a lot of electricity and also lets out a lot of heat. So if you can afford it, keep upgrading your electrical appliances be it your cooling system or geyser or refrigerator.
3. Buy a programmable thermostat for your home. It helps in streamlining power consumption thereby avoiding generation of heat unnecessarily.
4. Don’t drive fast. A lot of fuel is consumed when you drive fast and break suddenly. You can conserve a lot of gas, if you avoid it. Also whereever possible take car pool or public transport.
5. Watch the idle time. When the engine is idle for more than 30 seconds may be for a signal or traffic jam, switch off your engine. Fuel saved is fuel earned!!
6. Map out your errands.  That way you can plan your route so that you don't have to take unnecessary return trips. You can plan to go the farthest first so that you can cover the places inbetween on the way back. This way you will save a lot of fuel.
7. Take a break from driving. Try cycling or scooter or roller skates to nearby places.
8. Mow your lawn with care.  Avoid emissions while mowing your garden.
9. Do laundry efficiently. Plan your laundry and do it once or twice a week and when it is hot avoid using dryer and instead allow the clothes to dry in a clothes line.
